WHAT WE DO
The Center on Violence and Recovery is dedicated to advancing knowledge on the causes and consequences of violence and trauma, and developing solutions that foster healing among individuals, families and communities. To do this we:
INNOVATE
The Center on Violence and Recovery develops cutting-edge solutions to promote healing and transformation, including:
- Developing restorative justice-based treatment approaches that bring together entire communities in order to support families experiencing abuse
- Generating interdisciplinary responses to the complex issues of communal and intimate violence, abuse, and trauma
- Producing films, books, exhibits, and other creative media projects that explore new paths to healing and peace
STUDY
The Center on Violence and Recovery conducts research studies on critical issues related to trauma and restoration, including:
- Examining the effectiveness of new treatment approaches for healing both offenders and victims of domestic violence crimes
- Exploring topics pertaining to violence prevention and intervention such as community violence and reconciliation
- Understanding the significance of peer support and peer responses to disaster for first responders
EDUCATE
The Center on Violence and Recovery offers trainings, workshops, and lectures on topics related to trauma and healing, including:
- Conducting domestic and international trainings on Peacemaking and Healing Circles for communities that are seeking both broad and narrow approaches to addressing violence
- Hosting conferences that raise public awareness on issues of violence and trauma, and that offer opportunities for the teaching and learning of alternative treatment models
- Developing a virtual exhibit and website to measure the effectiveness and impact of varied methods of Holocaust and Genocide education
